SAFE Act

The SAFE Act

On July 30, 2008, President George W. Bush signed into law the Housing & Economic Recovery Act, which included the Secure & Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act, also known as the “ SAFE Act”.

The SAFE Act required every state in the U.S. to pass mortgage licensing laws and regulations that meet or exceed certain national standards.

Texas lawmakers passed House Bill 10, the Texas Secure & Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (“HB00010F ”) to meet the federal mandate during the 2009 legislative session.
